Why I Built FarmakoMed
Managing your health effectively should not be complicated. But for many people — those dealing with multiple medications, chronic conditions, or complex health situations — keeping everything organised is genuinely difficult.
Health information is fragmented. Scattered across paper documents, different apps, hospital systems, and memory. Medication lists get outdated. Documents get lost. In an emergency, the information you need is hard to find.
FarmakoMed was built to change that. A single tool that puts your health information in one place, on your phone, in a form you can actually use — without requiring accounts, subscriptions, or trusting a cloud service with your most personal data. The focus from the start has been practical: help people stay organised, respect their privacy, and stay out of the way.
Why Does FarmakoMed Have a Free Personal Plan?
Many health apps place essential features behind subscriptions. That makes sense for some businesses, but it feels wrong when the product is designed to help people manage their health.
FarmakoMed follows a different approach. The Personal Plan exists because:
- Basic health organisation tools should be accessible to everyone — not gated behind a recurring payment.
- Your health information belongs on your own device. You should not have to pay to keep it there.
- You should be able to start using a tool like this without committing to a subscription — and decide later, at your own pace, whether optional cloud features are worth it to you.
- Trust is built before subscriptions are requested.
The Personal Plan is designed to be a meaningful product, not a limited preview intended to push users toward a paid upgrade. The core features for organising your medication, health documents, and personal health information are in the Personal Plan — and are intended to remain there.
FarmakoMed may offer optional paid plans, such as Personal Plus, Family, and future AI-powered Insight tiers, for cloud backup, synchronisation, shared care, and additional premium capabilities. These plans help support the continued development of FarmakoMed while allowing the Personal Plan to remain useful, complete, and accessible on its own. The goal is simple: keep essential health organisation tools free, private, and personal.
Why Are AI Features Included?
Why does FarmakoMed include AI features at no extra cost?
FarmakoMed uses AI selectively, for practical tasks where it genuinely helps:
- Recognising medication from package photos
- Extracting text from health documents
- Generating plain-language summaries of complex medical paperwork
Rather than making AI the centrepiece of the product, these features are integrated where they reduce real friction. By focusing on specific, well-defined use cases and using on-device processing where possible, FarmakoMed can offer these capabilities without charging separately for each interaction.
This is not a commitment to unlimited AI at no cost forever. It reflects a deliberate decision about what is genuinely useful and what can be offered sustainably as part of the core product.
Why Verification Matters
Health information deserves a higher standard than simple AI recognition. Recognising a medication from a photo is a useful first step — but recognition alone is not the same as reviewed, trusted information.
FarmakoMed was designed around the idea that recognition should be followed by review and, where possible, verification against trusted medicine information sources. This approach helps users stay informed while maintaining control over what goes into their personal records.
